Current Graduate Student Achievements

Graduate students in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering continue to impress us with their accolades and accomplishments.

 

Jacob Wheaton earned a NASA Graduate Student Fellowship from the Iowa Space Consortium.

Trishelle Copeland-Johnson recently won a poster award at an American Nuclear Society (ANS) meeting in Boston.

Boyce Chang has accepted a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Berkeley.

Boyce Chang gave an invited seminar, entitled “Non-Traditional Synthons in Polymeric Materials,” in May of 2018 at the Singapore University of Technology and Design as part of the Engineering Product Development Lecture series.

Trevor Lyons has earned a NASA internship, and will be working at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama for the Summer of 2018.

Zhongming Fan had the opportunity to Chair a session at the 2018 Electronic and Advanced Materials (EAM) conference held in Orlando, Florida.

Emily Olson recently earned the distinguished 2018-2019 Brown Graduate Fellowship.

Kyle Miller has been awarded the Trinect Fellowship beginning Fall 2018.

Pratayasha Mohapatra’s paper – “Calcination does not remove all carbon from colloidal nanocrystal assemblies” – was published in the December 2017 issue of Nature Communications. (This paper was co-authored with Santosh Shaw, Deyny Mendivelso-Perez, Jonathan M. Bobbitt, Tiago F. Silva, Fabian Naab, Bin Yuan, Xinchun Tian, Emily A. Smith, & Ludovico Cademartiri.)

Andrew Martin won best oral presentation during the recently concluded GPSS conference.

Dohgyu Hwang was a 2018 Student Poster Award winner, earning a travel award from the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC) in order to present at the Tech 41 Seminar in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Matt Rolchigo has earned an internship at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and will be spending Summer 2018 in Livermore, California.

Rebecca Whitesell will join MSE Fall 2018 and has earned the Trinect Fellowship.

Andrew Martin is doing process development under the CTO at SAFI-Tech, working on a liquid metal synthesis process over Summer 2018 in Ames, Iowa.

Trishelle Copeland-Johnson will be on an internship assignment for Summer 2018 at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York as part of the GEM Fellowship program.

Boyce Chang and Ravi Tutika coauthored an article in the May 2018 publication of Materials Horizons entitled “Mechanically triggered composite stiffness tuning through thermodynamic relaxation (ST3R).”
